Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is responsible for preparing for the Annual Conference a list of nominations for positions vacated by either resignations or expiration of terms and reviewing board and committee memberships in light of the standing rules of the annual conference. As with all Free Methodist Church leadership, the board is composed of an equal number of ministerial and lay (non-ordained) leaders.

2020 Year-End Report

Thank you to those of you that have served on the various conference boards and committees for the past several years. A special thank you to those of you that have served 2 back to back terms for a total of 6 plus years. I say 6 plus because due to COVID, we had to extend the term limits of most of our committee members to allow for consistency and continuity of leadership during the pandemic year. So one important thing to note is those committee members whose terms should have expired last year at Annual Conference had their terms extended so that we didn’t have too many leaders terming out in the middle of our pandemic year

Nomination Process

Also a huge thank you to those of you that have already submitted names to be nominated on our 2021 Nominations page. If you are an elder or newly elected delegate for this year, you should have received an email inviting you to nominate gifted lay and clergy for upcoming vacancies on our conference boards and committees. Just as a reminder that all nominations are due by March 28, the Nominating Committee then vets all nominees and with the partnership of the Board of Administration, finalizes the list of names of candidates which will be presented on the ballot for Annual Conference 2021. We highly encourage you to nominate as many leaders as possible to ensure that we have greater diversity, representation, and robust leadership teams. We are so thankful for the many leaders that God has blessed us with over the years and the strength of our denomination and conference is dependent on who we elect to serve on our leadership teams.

Position Descriptions

One of the things your Nominating Committee has done to try to make your job of nominating candidates easier is to create position descriptions that describe the qualifications and expectations for each board and committee. These descriptions come from our Book of Discipline, values of the Free Methodist Church of Southern California (Free Methodist Church in Southern California), and interviews with chairs and members of each board and committee. These position descriptions, as well as the nominating form, are all provided in both English and Spanish.

Term Limits

Since we had to extend some term limits this past year, when we elect our new leaders at Annual Conference 2021, we will need to elect leaders for both 2-year and 3-year terms. This ensures that all of our leaders don’t term out at the same time and will give us better strength and continuity of leadership on all of our boards and committees moving forward.

Voting Process

Lasty, if you are an elder or a delegate for Annual Conference, you will receive an email inviting you to vote online for the various committees members. Please take time to read their bios and place your vote and reach out to the Nominating Committee with any questions.
