Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is a standing committee that is responsible to the Board of Administration for reviewing and recommending action on all matters concerning financial actions of the local church and the conference at large. The finance committee may also fulfill special projects as assigned by the Board of Administration. As with all Free Methodist Church leadership, the board is composed of an equal number of ministerial and lay (non-ordained) leaders.

2020 Year-End Report

The Finance Committee is a standing committee responsible to the Board of Administration for reviewing and recommending action on the financial matters of our local ministries and the conference.  Both the Kingdom Ministry Group and the Management Group are now separate entities that have their own boards of directors that oversee and review their respective budgets.

This past year has not been what anyone has expected.  The impact of the coronavirus has affected both our conference and local church’s budgets.  To respond to this, we have worked to reduce conference expenses and sought ways to have direct impact and intervention with the local church.  Our local churches and their leadership have done an amazing job adapting to the new demands of the shutdowns.  The Lord has been faithful and our pastors have led creatively working within their respective budgets to build the Kingdom.

Looking forward, we have identified some clear areas of improvement.  Mainly, we are seeking to bring clarity to the roles and responsibilities of the Finance Committee.  With a conference our size and complexity, the former job description does not accurately represent the current duties, responsibilities, or authority of the Finance Committee.  We thank the Lord for our growth forward in sustainability and stewardship and are excited to see our structure correspond with that growth.  Further this year has shown us the need for financial training for the Board of Administration, the Management Group, Kingdom Ministry Group, and Finance Committee.
